Ghost Hunting
Ghost hunting can be safe if done right. The main things are to not ever go alone, keep calm, and have and emergency plan. Simpler said than done right? Well, let's go over some hints.
Obviously, you'll need to find a place that's known to be haunted, or stereotyped to be haunted. Stereotyped places include Churches, Hospitals, Schools, and those kind of things.
Here are some good places to look:
-
Cemeteries
-
Churches
-
Hospitals
-
Schools
-
Hotels
-
Battlefields
-
Tunnels
-
Crossroads
-
Prisons (Abandoned)
I'd like to point something out real quick. Never trespass! I found out the hard way when I was visiting Texas, when I was ghost hunting at a church; enough of that though, if you want the full story, e-mail me. Let me say it again, DON'T TRESPASS--police will come! So be smart, get permission, so you don't get arrested or shot! Also one more thing in this area, carry identification with you, just in case the police do question you.
Obviously, carry a flash light. And also, bring extra batteries and warm clothing, just in case.
Watch out for hazardous conditions, such as weak floors, holes and that kind of stuff. Visit the location you're at first, in the day, so you can familiarize yourself with the obstacles.
Go in a group. I can't stress this enough! It's very important. Ecspecially beginers--they will be fragile in the first place, but what if something DOES come up? Then what? It's important to have a support team-- AND BESIDES!-- what's the point of going ghost hunting when you don't have witnesses. Skeptics aren't going to believe you if it was just you.
Be mature--ghost hunting is fun as it should be! But there's a level were dumb pranks can lead to accidents. You need to be attentive to all your surroundings. Mostly likely, you're not going to have a ghost come to you and introduce him or herself!
If you can afford it, carry a tape recorder with you. Not the expensive digital kind or anything. Just get a cheap cassette recorder. Even though you might have not heard anything on your ghost hunt! You might still find a message on the cassette afterwards!
Here's a helpful hint... Instead of buying a Trifield(R), just bring a compass instead. Not only is it good for direction if you get lost, you can monitor the arms on it to detect changes in magnetic field. It's not as powerful as the Trifield(R), but it works on the same principle.
If you're very serious about investigating paranormal phenomena, keep a log of all strange, unordinary, or peculiar events to used to determine patterns in ghost sightings.
Well, that's all for now. If you have any hints for ghost hunting, e-mail me at tropicallanterns@yahoo.com.
